NL Aerospace Firm to Manufacture

High-Performance Turboprop Utility Aircraft

CORVUS TACTICAL AIRCRAFT CORP. (CORVUS), a private firm based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, has acquired the global rights for a High-Performance Turboprop Utility Aircraft from AIRBUS POLAND S.A., a subsidiary of AIRBUS DEFENCE AND SPACE. Enabled with this highly valuable Intellectual Property, the company aims to become a manufacturer and global supplier of cost-effective aircraft and related solutions, mainly for Rapid Response Aerial Firefighting and Agricultural services, as well as other innovative applications and specialised markets.

As it establishes its production line in St. John’s, CORVUS will build on the extensive Aerospace and Defence experience of its core staff. The company expects to create up to one hundred highly technical local manufacturing jobs as it builds, sells, and supports its ‘Made-in-Canada’ CORVUS aircraft and equipment, exported to domestic and international markets by air and sea.

To support its planned production, CORVUS is building a supply chain that already includes leading aerospace suppliers across Canada, with a focus on highly experienced firms located in Newfoundland and Labrador and throughout Atlantic Canada. Several of these suppliers have also supported CORVUS throughout its early development stages, in addition to many years of support provided by AIRBUS POLAND. As well, CORVUS has long drawn upon CAN-AM AEROSPACE to provide a full range of DAR (TCCA Design Approval Representative) services.

CORVUS will build upon the proven technical advantages of its new aircraft, and its position as one of the lowest operating costs per hour flown in the target markets. The forecast cost will also make it very price competitive, and CORVUS plans additional advantages to customers and operators in the areas of operations, logistics, customer support, and export-friendly financing options. CORVUS believes this will allow it to quickly establish market foothold and grow to a significant market share over the first five years.

This opportunity is made possible by ISED Canada’s Industrial and Technological Benefits (ITB) program, in support of the respective AIRBUS DEFENCE AND SPACE commitments under the Strategic Tanker Transport Capability (STTC) contract.

The Government of Canada recently awarded AIRBUS DEFENCE AND SPACE the Strategic Tanker Transport Capability project, to replace the ageing CC-150 Polaris (A310 MRTT) operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).

This contract includes four newly-built AIRBUS A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport aircraft (MRTT) and the conversion of five used A330-200s in a quest to strengthen Canada’s continental defence capabilities. The current contract has an order value of approximately CAD $3 billion or 2.1€ billion (excluding taxes). As part to the contract AIRBUS will be delivering 100% ITB plus a wide range of Value Proposition (VP) topics such as Direct/Defence, Export, Supplier Development, Small Medium Business, Clean Tech, R&D or Skills Development. This project will support numerous such VP areas.

CORVUS is supported by a combination of private investment and contributions from key government organizations and programs, including the Government of Canada, the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP), and the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The company’s private investors are primarily aviation-industry players, including SYNERJET CORP., who are ideally placed to complement CORVUS industrial requirements in Canada, as well as its worldwide sales and after-sales activities.
